Privacy policy

Last updated: 22 August 2026

1. Who we are

Socialgator ("we", "us", "our") provides a platform that turns social media videos into shoppable, embeddable widgets for online stores. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it and the rights you have over it.

For any privacy question or request, contact us at privacy@socialgator.com.

2. Data we collect

Account data: your name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash) when you register.

Team and billing data: team name; for paid plans, billing is handled by Stripe. We never see or store full card details; Stripe processes payments and shares only a customer reference with us.

Content you add: video URLs you paste, captions, thumbnails and product details (names, prices, links) that you tag to videos.

Usage data: anonymous widget view and product-click events from visitors who see embedded widgets on your store, plus basic technical logs (IP address, user agent) needed to run and secure the service.

3. How we use your data

To provide the service: downloading videos you request, rendering widgets, counting views and clicks.

To manage your account and subscription, including usage limits attached to your plan.

To communicate service updates and, only with your consent, product news you can unsubscribe from at any time.

To detect abuse, secure the platform and comply with legal obligations.

4. Legal bases (GDPR)

We process account and billing data to perform our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)).

We process technical logs and analytics on the basis of legitimate interests in operating and securing the service (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Marketing emails rely on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time.

5. Third-party processors

Stripe: subscription payments. Stripe acts as an independent controller for payment data.

TikTok / social platforms: public metadata (title, thumbnail) may be fetched via their public endpoints when you add a link. We do not interact with your social accounts.

Hosting provider: application hosting and storage of uploaded/downloaded media within the EU/UK region where practicable.

A current list of sub-processors is available on request.

6. Cookies

We use strictly necessary cookies for authentication and session security. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party ad trackers.

With your consent we also load Google Analytics via Google Tag Manager to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics (pages visited, session duration, device type). Google Analytics uses first-party cookies (_ga, _gid) which are set only after you accept analytics cookies in our consent banner. You can change or withdraw this consent at any time by clicking "Manage preferences" in the footer of any page.

Embedded widgets set no tracking cookies of their own; view/click events are first-party and anonymised.

7. Data retention

Account data is kept while your account is active. When you delete your account we remove personal data within 30 days, except where retention is legally required (e.g. billing records kept for six years).

Videos you delete are removed from our storage immediately.

8. Your rights

You have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. You may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO).

To exercise any right, email privacy@socialgator.com; we respond within 30 days.

9. Security

We protect data with encryption in transit (TLS), hashed passwords, least-privilege access controls and regular dependency updates. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affecting your data occurs we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we will notify you by email or in-app notice before they take effect. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
